The Palheiro Estate is located on the beautiful island of Madeira. It enjoys a beautiful hillside location with stunning views of the ocean and the city of Funchal. Since it was acquired by the Blandy family in 1885, successive generations have managed the transition from traditional farming to leisure based activities.
The Palheiro Golf course is an 18 hole par 72 course designed by Cabell B. Robinson with two holes replaced in 2003. Facilities include a six hole Academy Course for all levels, a chipping green with bunkers, putting green, warm-up driving range, practice nets, PGA professional and team, club and buggy and hand trolley hire and a fully equipped Pro shop. The Clubhouse is stylish and boasts a superb restaurant run by the Casa Velha do Palheiro hotel.
The gardens at “Quinta do Palheiro” are famous not only for the variety of plants that grow there but for the beauty of their setting in the hills to the east of Funchal, the capital of Madeira. Madeira has long been called the “Garden Isle” and it seems that almost anything will grow in its fertile soil. The Palheiro gardens are situated at about 500 meters above sea level. The garden is a Mecca for Camellia lovers, the main flowering season being from November to April. Visitors may be surprised to see trees such as Oak, Beech, Chestnut and Cedar growing alongside Eucalyptus and Araucaria pines, but such is the diversity of this unique garden.
Palheiro Spa is an exciting new addition to Palheiro Estate. Set amongst one of Europe´s most beautiful gardens it is difficult not to experience an immediate sense of well-being and beauty. The Spa offers comprehensive massage menu from around the globe, specifically designed golfers’ massages, botanical face and body treatments and “immediate results” non-invasive facial treatments.
Within the Estate you will find Casa Velha Hotel. This beautiful hotel was built in 1804 as a hunting Lodge for the first Count Carvalhal and is now a luxury Country House Hotel; the extensive leisure facilities include a sauna, steam room, tennis court, billiards room and an outdoor swimming pool.
The beautiful hillside location of Palheiro Estate makes it ideal for discerning property owners: quiet and peaceful with ocean views, yet within easy reach of Funchal city centre and the international airport. Palheiro Real Estate is now launching its Fractional Freehold Scheme which offers the perfect solution for those wanting to have an apartment or villa available for their use in a flexible and cost-effective way, without the full costs of second home ownership.
Each property has four owners, each of whom owns full freehold rights to the property for their respective quarter. In this way, all of the costs are shared, making the property more cost-effective, but each owner has full freehold rights, so can sell or bequeath their quarter as they wish. With the Fractional Freehold Plan at Palheiro Village, each Owner enjoys three months of occupancy spread through the year, with a rotating system of use so that, over a four-year period, each owner has the same benefits of use and enjoys the
property in each month of the year.
