Wedding Among The Wildlife
September 12, 2008 by Owners Perspective (Fractional Ownership & Timeshare Consumer Magazine) ·
For a wedding venue with a difference, Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust in Jersey, offers its grounds – a 32-acre site home to 130 animal species from amphibians and reptiles, gorillas and gibbons to meerkats and fruit bats – for civil ceremonies and romantic receptions.
Beth Laybourne, Durrell’s events co-ordinator, says: “Couples often choose to celebrate their marriage with us if they have a particular passion for the natural world and wildlife conservation. Others choose to tie the knot here because it is simply a stunning location. So for nuptials among nature, with a little bit of animal magic thrown in, love birds can have a truly memorable matrimony or remarkable reception with us at Durrell in Jersey.”
As well as the parkland, Durrell has a traditional 18th century manor house. Couples can hire the boardroom for civil ceremonies, providing a more intimate wedding experience. The Manor House courtyard is also available for hire and there are two lawned areas, both suitable for a marquee, where receptions can be held.
Packages are available for a ceremony, a reception or both and prices start from £550 to include guest entrance fees to Durrell and a private area for both pre-dinner and post-ceremony celebratory drinks.
Durrell also works in partnership with Chique wedding planners on the island if the thought of organising everything yourself is too daunting. For more information about weddings or receptions at Durrell please email weddings@durrell.org or visit www.durrell.org.
Durrell has been saving animals from extinction for fifty years. It is an international charity and relies on fundraising to continue its conservation work, protecting endangered animals around the world.
