A five-star vacation hideaway at the heart of the Riviera Maya, Mexico
Warm sun year-round, crystal-clear turquoise waters and miles of powder – white sand that is cool to the touch whatever the weather would seem powerful attractions enough to lure visitors from a cold grey climate, yet the Mexican Caribbean offers so much more.

It is home to some of the most beautiful beaches on the planet, the world’s second longest coral reef, ancient Mayan temples, nature parks and lively resort towns offering a sophisticated blend of shopping, dining and nightlife. All this has made the area and its twin destinations of Cancun and Riviera Maya a top holiday spot and one that is increasingly popular with visitors from the United Kingdom.
Yet visitors to the Mexican Caribbean soon discover that one trip is not long enough to experience everything in
this tropical playground. There is so much to see and do that you can spend a lifetime of vacations here and many
people do just that, choosing to return to Royal Resorts, their Mexican home away from home, year after year.
Founded in Cancun in 1975, Royal Resorts is a pioneer vacation ownership company, which has grown over the years with Mexico’s premier master-planned resort. It now has six beachfront resorts in Cancún and the Riviera Maya, over 80,000 member families from all over the world and some of the highest customer satisfaction rates in the industry.
What makes Royal Resorts so irresistible and has its members anxiously counting the days on their calendars until their next trip? Its resorts offer a winning combination of luxury villa accommodation, five-star services and hospitality. The fully furnished two-bedroom, two-bathroom villas sleep six and have ocean-view terraces. Mark Carney O.B.E., Royal Resorts Marketing & Sales Director says, “We thought about what families need on vacation and we have taken care of every detail. Our villas are spacious, comfortable and impeccably maintained; they are
equipped with everything you could possibly want during your holiday and there’s maid service every day except Sunday.” This philosophy also extends to resort amenities and activities, there is something for all ages, from pools and tennis courts to an activity program, tour desk and restaurants offering a variety of dining choices.
As the popularity of the Riviera Maya skyrocketed, the Royal Resorts developers decided to expand into the area, selecting the Grand Coral beach and golf community, ten minutes to the north of district capital Playa del Carmen and 30 minutes from Cancún International Airport, to be the site of The Royal Haciendas, their latest resort. “There is enormous demand for the Riviera Maya and more than ever, Royal Resorts member families are deciding to extend their vacations south of Cancún. People love the area, its natural beauty, attractions and its laid-back ambiance,” says Mark Carney. “Since its launch in 2005, The Royal Haciendas has had a tremendous reception and villa sales have exceeded our expectations.”
Nestled on the shores of two sheltered bays with miles of soft white sand on the doorstep, The Royal Haciendas takes its inspiration from the grand old henequen haciendas of the Yucatán. The low-rise buildings are set in extensive gardens and feature arches, columns, fountains and terraces.
A low-density development, The Royal Haciendas was built in accordance with the strictest environmental regulations. The gardens are planted with native species of trees and shrubs to attract birds, butterflies and other
wildlife, and the resort has its own reverse osmosis water purification system and recycling program. It also follows MARTI (Mesoamerican Reef Tourism Initiative) green policy recommendations to minimize the impact of tourism on the area’s ecosystems and the offshore reefs.
Showcasing the best features of the Royal Resorts in Cancún, the villas at The Royal Haciendas represent the culmination of over 30 years of vacation villa design experience. All 252 units sleep six and have two bedrooms and two bathrooms, a spacious living and dining area with two Murphy beds, a fully equipped kitchen and an ocean-view terrace that is perfect for relaxing, al fresco dining and stargazing. Additional touches of luxury include flat screen TVs, DVD players, wireless Internet access, granite counter tops and a whirlpool tub for two on the terrace.
The villas are available in two floor plans: the Oceanview villa (153m2/1,648sq.ft) and the Penthouse and Beachfront Villa (160m2/1,722sq.ft), which in addition to the aforementioned features, also has a small lounge area in the master bedroom and a larger master bathroom with closets. The villa color scheme is rich in terracotta, beige, Indian gold and sepia with accents of Spanish tile, wood, stone and hand-painted wall motifs.
The villas are also designed in keeping with the Royal Resorts Flexivilla concept: the second bedroom is a lock-off room with a kitchenette and its own separate entrance, giving families the option to use the entire villa or to convert the unit into a suite sleeping four and a separate Jr. suite for two.

Unlike many Riviera Maya resorts which use golf cart shuttles to transport guests to the beach, all the villas at The Royal Haciendas are just steps away from the spectacular shoreline. The soft white sand captivates sun worshippers, and the calm, clear waters of the bays are perfect for swimming, snorkeling and kayaking.
Away from the beach, The Royal Haciendas offers members and guests an impressive array of amenities. There are four large pools, two of which are infinity pools for relaxation and fun and two are semi-Olympic lap pools. Large whirlpool tubs, sun decks, swim up bars, children’s pools and shaded hammock areas are added attractions in the pool areas.
For the activity-minded, The Royal Haciendas has floodlit tennis courts, a sports desk where guests can sign out
tennis rackets, snorkel gear and kayaks, and a gym. A dive center offers trips to reefs in the Riviera Maya and Cozumel and PADI resort courses are available for guests who would like to learn how to dive.
Families enjoy the resort’s daily activity program for children and adults, featuring sports, beach games and crafts.
For the ultimate in Riviera Maya relaxation, The Royal Haciendas has a Spa offering an exclusive collection of herbal, fruit and marine therapies and a beauty salon to complete the pampering experience.
Guests who would like to explore the area can plan an unforgettable sightseeing itinerary with the in-house travel agency. Options include trips to archaeological sites such as Tulum, Cobá and Chichén Itzá, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the Seven New Wonders of the World; family outings to the famous Xcaret and Xel-Há parks; bird watching in Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve and jungle adventures to Xplor, Selvatica and Rio Secreto, where activities include zip lining, caving and swimming in cenotes. Catamaran cruises, water sports, fishing trips and horse riding can also be arranged. Guests who would like to explore the area at their own pace can rent a car from the Hertz desk.
For more activity ideas, resort information and all the little details such as restaurant reservations and golf teetimes, guests can ask their own concierge, on call during their stay to help them have a wonderful time. Recentlyextended to include advance vacation planning, the Concierge service is one of the hallmarks of the Royal Resorts brand of hospitality.
A delicious experience awaits diners at The Royal Haciendas. The beachfront restaurant La Palapa del Sol offers tropical ambiance, breathtaking views and a menu featuring Mexican cuisine, steaks and seafood. For a casual lunch the poolside Aqua Grill (two locations) serves up ceviche, burgers and tasty fish tacos. Guests who prefer to dine in their villa can order supper items and pizzas from a gourmet express counter or visit the well-stocked resort convenience store.
Apart from the a la carte menu, guests can enjoy theme dining during the week with choices ranging from a Mexican Fiesta to Seafood and Italian Nights; La Rotonda Lobby Bar is also a popular spot for after-dinner entertainment,
This December, The Royal Haciendas proudly unveils its latest restaurant, Los Murales. The freshest seafood from the Caribbean, Pacific and further afield will be served in a sophisticated setting enhanced by a series of magnificent Byzantine-style mosaics inspired by the work of Cuban painter Arturo Montoto.
Just a ten-minute taxi ride away, Quinta Avenida, Playa del Carmen’s Fifth Avenue, offers more shopping, dining
and nightlife choices. Furthermore, the development plans for the Grand Coral beach and golf community stipulate that it will also have its own “town center” with restaurants, open-air cafes, bars, boutiques and other attractions. A Nick Price-designed 18-hole professional golf course is already under construction and is slated for completion in 2011.

The Royal Haciendas Membership Program
“Royal Resorts is an excellent option for visitors who fall in love with the Mexican Caribbean, wish they could stay
longer and decide to return. It offers them the chance to have their own holiday home, one that they can enjoy
with their families for a many years to come. We use the Guaranteed Villa, Guaranteed Week concept, which is
unique in the Mexican Caribbean and offered by only a few companies at global level. The concept benefits members in that it gives them guaranteed holidays, without the need for reservations. They choose the villa location and the time slot that suits them and their villa will be waiting for them at the same time every year, all they have to do is show up. ”
Members like the flexibility that Royal Resorts offers. They can rent or lend their villa or part of it, exchange it
to stay at the other Royal Resorts in Cancún, Mérida, capital of the Yucatán, and the Caribbean islands of St Maarten and Curaçao or use it to explore the world. Carney explains, “Royal Resorts is affiliated to the Interval International vacation exchange network and by trading their unit members can stay at over 2,400 resorts in exiting destinations around the globe. Our membership program really does offer endless possibilities.”
