The Key To Luxury
June 10, 2009 by Fractional & Shared Ownership Property News & Reviews · Leave a Comment
Timeshare owners have long had high quality accommodation available to them, but as Sarah Lee discovers, the increasing numbers of savvy second home owners have been seeking something more.
Ever fancied staying at your own ski chalet in Aspen, having your butler serve drinks on the deck of your 30-foot yacht moored off of the South of France or sipping locally produced wine at your restored Tuscan country house?

Pure Indulgence in Provence
Members of The Registry Collection, a luxury exchange programme operated by RCI, have been enjoying these and many other fantastic experiences the world over since it launched seven years ago.
Just last month The Registry Collection affiliated its 160th outstanding luxury property with the recent new affiliations including those in the US, Latin America and the Caribbean due for completion by end of next year.
Europe, the Middle East and Africa have also seen a growth in unique and exclusive properties joining The Registry Collection exchange programme including new locations in the South of France, Dubai and South Africa.
Properties in The Registry Collection are sold on a fractional basis. Fractional ownership represents a large – usually a four-week – share in an upscale development. The majority of purchases are deeded or the equivalent, sold in perpetuity and the properties can be sold on, or willed to family members providing a significant benefit.
Starting prices are higher than in timeshare, the minimum being around £70,000 per fractional share. A great benefit of this product compared to whole ownership is that the buyer only pays for the time they use in a multi-million pound development, leaving the management company to take care of all maintenance and security issues allowing them to have hassle free ownership.
The Registry Collection goes beyond traditional holiday accommodation and offers members access to exchange into some of the finest leisure products across the world, ranging from luxury hotels, estate homes and villas to castles and luxury yachts.
RCI president and CEO Geoff Ballotti said: “We could not be more pleased with the growth of The Registry Collection and the quality of world class resorts that this network of luxury destinations continues to offer its members.”
Much more than the finest residences, The Registry Collection offers its 30,000 members access to exclusive member benefits, including personal concierge services, member-only discounts and access to a variety of luxury travel and service providers and dedicated Reservation Consultants to help them plan their holiday.
The Registry Collection’s vice president of global product marketing Gregg Anderson said: “Particularly in challenging economic times, buyers around the world see the value in buying into a comprehensive programme of services that can enhance their experience and add real value.”
Fine resorts
The Registry Collection has signed some of the world’s finest resorts; some still in development, but set to wow the programme’s members.
Experience exquisite Provence
One of the most recent affiliates to The Registry Collection offers members a fusion of contemporary interior design within centuries old settings.
Set in the heart of Provence are three properties being developed by luxury developers Avenio Prieuré in conjunction with Les Maisons de Baumanière, an upscale French hotel brand.
The first resort, Le Prieuré, set for completion next year, is set within the peace of its 13th century surrounds and located less than four kilometres from the historic walled-town of Avignon.
Domaine de l’Enclos, the second property will be located in the hillside area of Gordes, noted for its traditional stone architecture. Home to many artists and stars, Gordes is rated as one of the most beautiful villages in France and all apartments will have views of the magnificent Luberon valley. Avenio Prieuré’s third property will be located in Aix en Provence, the region’s stunning capital.
Each of the fractional properties will comprise 24 one- and two-bedroom apartments and villas, with access to the facilities of the attached boutique hotels, Michelinstarred restaurants and luxury spas run by L’Occitane. Le Prieuré and Domaine de l’Enclos will offer six-week fractionals, an average of eight owners per apartment, with a starting price of €180,000 per two-bedroom apartment. All this, in a region where a standard two-bedroom apartment would carry a price tag of €1 million to buy outright.

Luxury accommodation and spectacular views are on offer at Pezula
Out of Africa
At Pezula Private Residence Club, in Kynsa in South Africa’s Garden Route, the sumptuous spa is a big draw. It was recently rated the best spa in Africa, the Middle East and Indian Ocean by readers of Condè Nast Traveller. The resort also won three golds in the Homes Overseas Awards – best development, South Africa, best fractional ownership scheme and best luxury development worldwide.
With spectacular views of the nearby sea, lagoon and indigenous countryside, Pezula will offer 255 residences set amidst forests and panoramic landscapes. It has a championship golf course and club and the nearby hotel has an award winning spa, offering everything from indulgent massages to medi-spa treatments.

Portuguese sunset over Martinhal
Villa-style luxury
Another award winning project is under development at Sagres in Portugal’s Algarve region.
Martinhal, a luxury family resort, is set to open its doors in 2010 and will include three restaurants, a spa, five swimming pools (indoor and outdoor), children’s club, crèche and tennis courts.
The development has received recognition in the Best of the Best, Best Luxury Development Worldwide and Best Landscape Design in The Homes Overseas Awards, the latter in recognition of its landscape design that integrates and blends into the surrounding nature park.

Relaxation on an IFA yacht
Sail away
Another exciting recent addition to The Registry Collection, The IFA Yacht Ownership Club offers a fleet of three luxury Maiora motor yachts, ranging from 23 to 27 metres. The yachts are based in Dubai, Beirut and Cannes and members of the club can design their own cruising calendar using a real-time, online scheduler or through the Club’s concierge service.
Onboard members of the IFA Yacht Ownership Club are attended by a fully qualified, professional captain, deckhand and steward. Sleeping up to eight guests in four on-suite cabins the yachts feature luxury interiors and twin Caterpillar engines to allow for cruising speeds of up to 28 knots.
