Holiday For Your Well Being
June 12, 2009 by Fractional & Shared Ownership Property News & Reviews · Leave a Comment
We all feel the benefit of a relaxing holiday but there is evidence to suggest that holidays can actually be good for your well-being. Be it a city break or beachside retreat timeshare offers a wide range of holiday options and revitalising experiences, writes Sarah Lee.

Ask timeshare owners why they first purchased their week in the sun and responses will vary greatly. Perhaps it was the quality of the accommodation, the knowledge that they were securing a lifetime of holidays, knowing that they would have holiday accommodation to pass on to their children or because of the world of exchange options it offered them.
Whatever the response the great majority of owners are delighted with their purchase decision and enjoy fantastic breaks each year. But few would say it actually benefited their well-being or relationship or improved family time.
But according to US marriage and family therapist Dr Tara Fields holidays are one of the best things you can do for a relationship and timeshare is a great option for family breaks. Dr Fields, a regular on Oprah and Good Morning America, said: “You don’t have to go somewhere exotic, especially with the economy the way it is. But the key to it is to get away from household chores and bills.
“For the kids you could invite a best friend to come along on the holiday. Alternatively having grandparents travel with you can allow for some ‘couple’ time.”
Dr Fields highlights the amount of space in timeshare accommodation as one of the benefits. She added that the privacy offered by two or three bedrooms combined with the freedom and relaxation of being out of familiar surroundings can make for romantic evenings.
Dr Fields also feels the benefits offered by kitchen facilities in timeshare accommodation are great for holidays on a budget. As timeshare owners have paid for their holidays in advance they’re an economic choice for a break, while preparing meals yourself are a lot cheaper than eating out and usually healthier.
Of course Dr Fields isn’t the only person to have discovered timeshare’s benefits. RCI has 3.7 million members worldwide for whom timeshare is proving a sound economic choice. An RCI member will spend an average of just £15,175, on the initial cost of their timeshare, maintenance fees and exchange fees, over 60 years of travels – a saving of £23,000 per person on the amount the average person spends on holidays over the same period.
A spokesman for RCI said: “By purchasing a timeshare and joining RCI, holidaymakers can take advantage of a lifetime of future holidays at today’s prices.
“Our members have a whole world of holiday choices available to them as we have a wide portfolio of properties in countries as diverse as Australia, Egypt and Mexico.
“Added to this, a great number of RCI’s affiliated European resorts are in ‘drive to’ destinations. Across Continental Europe many members already drive from France to resorts in Spain for example, and in difficult economic times forgoing expensive flights is becoming more popular.
RCI has also teamed with sister company Holiday Cottages Group to develop the Owner Exchange Club offering members more accommodation in France, Spain and the UK.
The spokesman adds: “The Owner Exchange Club is offering our members holiday choices closer to home, where they can experience somewhere new without having to fly. This is also very beneficial for UK members who are struggling with currency exchange rates in other countries.”

What is timeshare?
A timeshare is a share of a holiday accommodation that can be purchased a week at a time at one of thousands of resorts around the world. Prices for a timeshare week vary by resort. Once you have purchased a timeshare at an RCI-affiliated resort you automatically become an RCI member – giving you access to more than 4,000 quality resorts worldwide.
What is an RCI Exchange?
RCI operates the world’s largest global timeshare exchange network with its 4,000 resorts. If you’re looking
for a different holiday to your usual timeshare break, deposit your week with RCI and you can chose from any number of experiences, in countries the world over. An RCI Exchange costs just £124 short haul and £165 long haul.
What does RCI membership offer?
RCI membership offers a range of benefits. Not only are you assured great choice and exceptional quality in
accommodation – resorts are regularly inspected by RCI and reviewed by members and the best are awarded RCI Gold Crown, RCI Silver Crown and RCI Hospitality ratings, but membership is also great value for money.
Extra Holidays mean that you don’t have to exchange a week to get away and start from just £149 a week.
There are also expert Guides to advise on every aspect of your holiday, while Holiday magazine offers members travel inspiration.
Weeks or Points?
Whether you buy an RCI Week or RCI Points rather depends on the resort you purchase at as most offer one
product or the other.
If you purchase an RCI Week you have a set amount of time at a designated time of the year which you can
exchange through RCI’s exchange network. Members who own RCI Points are given a Points value based on
various factors including the supply and demand at your resort location, the type of unit, season, and evaluations from members who’ve stayed there.
Members can exchange RCI Points to make reservations at Points and Weeks resorts, as well as with RCI
Points Partners for hotels, rental cars, cruises, airfares and entertainment.
Get the most from your membership
• Deposit your Week early with RCI – this will give you greater options for Exchange.
• Once your Week is deposited or Points value assigned you can Exchange.
• Use the rci.com website to identify resorts you would like to Exchange into, see all the resort details, and read member reviews.
• Make the most of RCI’s travel services – Guides can book flights, car hire and cruises.
