Hilton Dubai Jumeirah has won the ‘Best Sustainable Hotel of the Middle East’ Award at the third Middle East Hospitality Expansion Congress’s (MEHEC) Excellence in Hospitality Awards, which took place in Abu Dhabi on Sunday, November 22nd.
Hilton Dubai Jumeirah was recognised for its significant achievements in energy conservation, as well as sustainability reporting through Hilton Worldwide’s Hilton Environmental Analysis and Tracking System (HEAT), which enables the hotel to connect their sustainability performance to their operations’ strategy.
“The independent panel of judges took several factors into account while finalising winners of the eleven awards featured at the 2009 Middle East Hospitality Congress. Hilton Dubai Jumeirah was named the ‘Best Sustainable Hotel of the Middle East’ for several initiatives it has undertaken to conserve energy, including its Conserve to Preserve Program, the introduction of energy efficient lighting and the engineering department’s record reduction of Hotel utilities consumption by 13% and 14.4% for electricity and water,” said Fabien Faure, Managing Director, Naseba.
Commenting on the recognition, Christian Muhr, General Manager, Hilton Dubai Jumeirah Resort & Residence said, “Hilton Dubai Jumeirah’s sustainability ethos is not only embedded in our operation practice, but is also imbibed in each and every one of our team members, hereby taking environmental consciousness from hotel to home.”
Earlier this year, Hilton Dubai Jumeirah was honoured by Dubai Water & Electricity Authority as part of ‘Your Decision’ campaign, which was a call to action programme encouraging all sectors of Dubai to embrace conservation policies at every level of operation.
In 2008, Hilton Dubai Jumeirah’s strive to reduce its carbon foot-print resulted in a 6.2% reduction in electricity usage, while a 2% decrease was recorded in water consumption in 2008, a year which was the busiest on record, since the property’s opening.
Other green initiatives currently active in the hotel include World Wildlife Fund’s Earth Hour, Hilton Worldwide’s water conservation programme and energy efficient lighting. Hilton Dubai Jumeirah was also the first hotel in the UAE to adopt JohnsonDiversey’s green cleaning innovation, the Jonmaster Ultra-Microfibre Cleaning System.
Hilton Dubai Jumeirah fully supports Hilton Worldwide’s comprehensive sustainability goals, implementing business practices that are aligned with those goals.
